Center – Phase II
Horizon opened its
Grief
Resource
Center to the community in July of 2006. It only took a few months to realize that the service is needed, and that expanding the capacity was necessary. Horizon opened a larger, more comprehensive center in October of 2007. Our photo-journal documents the transformation of an empty office space into a safe, comfortable haven for individuals dealing with loss.

It looks like a new Center! We are nearing completion, and now it's down to the details.

This week The Willow is in focus - lighting, slatwall and windows are in place and it's starting to feel like a real shop. Also checked off of the list: painting, some carpeting, and track lighting.

The dust has settled and the cafe is really taking shape! Tile floor was laid yesterday, and the cabinets have been hung. Measurements for the countertops were taken yesterday. More painting has been done, and about 8-million more details have been discussed. We are on-target for completion!

Dust is flying today, and we seem to be making progress. The kitchen island has been constructed out of drywall for our cafe, there has been some painting going on, and the walls are ready for cabinetry. It still looks a little bit like a disaster zone, but out of an empty shell, we are starting to see the internal workings of a Grief Resource Center.

The last 48 hours have been quite productive in the Center. Drywall is going up everywhere and it's starting to look like our "space". The barrier between the new office space and the GRC is becoming a reality - our vision is really coming alive!

Concrete and lights were the theme today. All of our new light fixtures have been installed and are functioning, and they ran the electic lines through the trench and then filled it in with cement.

Lots of changes today. The wall separating the GRC from the new office space has now taken form, and the cement was sawed in order to instal data wiring and electricity to the new reception desk and cafe.

We began to see changes today with the old ceiling disapearing and more equipment coming into the space. John from Traid tells us that tomorrow the floor gets ripped out.

The contracts are signed and construction will be under way in no time. Our architect, Eppstein Uhen, and contractor, Triad Construction have spent hours planning and researching the best ways to make our dream come true. Here's what our space looks like today:
